GEOGRAPHY
The Department of Geography was established in November 1959 and initiated by The Indonesia Army to support their activities in creating and analyzing maps for military purposes.
The department has two Study Programs, i.e. undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Undergraduate program conducts three specialized fields, i.e. Physical Geography, Remote Sensing and GIS, and Regional Planning. Whilst at the in the graduate program there are two fields of specialization, i.e. Regional Planning and GIS – Remote Sensing Application.
The Department of Geography is facilitated by three main laboratories which may support its research and education activities:
- Laboratory of GIS & Remote Sensing (equipped by studios, i.e. Spatial data processing, Air photo Interpretation, Cartography, and Terrestrial Mapping),
- Laboratory of Physical Geography (equipped by hydrology, soil, geology and geomorphology instrument).
- Laboratory of Regional Planning.
- This department is also facilitated by a library and a map library.
Since demand for geographical services for either supporting government or private activities was increasing rapidly then a Center of Research and Applied Geography was established in the mid of 1990s.
