The Center becomes a superior center as well as a good reference in marine education, research, and public service in Indonesia, and also plays the same roles in international level.
Misi
The mission of the Center is to promote education, training, and research to enhance the uses of ocean space and its resources wisely, and also the management, regulation, protection, and conservation of the marine biotas and marine environment, especially of Indonesian waters, guided by the principle of the common heritage of mankind.

Aktivitas dan Program Utama
- Support the Indonesia government in protecting, preserving, and conserving, as well as using wisely the marine resources.
- Run activities on education, research, training, seminar, workshop, and service, on marine issues.
- Establish partnership and networks with the government and non government as well as the local and international institutions in studying the marine and marine related aspects.
- Support the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia, running the Marine Postgraduate Study Program majoring in Marine Physical Sciences and Marine Biological Sciences.
