Talkshow Opportunities and Role of Actuaries in General Insurance

An actuary is an expert whose job is to solve actual problems in a business, especially those related to risk.

Actuaries generally work in the insurance sector, pension funds, and actuarial consultants.

The actuary profession in Indonesia is not as popular as it is abroad, even though the need for actuaries is very high because there are not enough professional actuaries needed by the financial industry in Indonesia.

Until 2019 the number of actuaries is still around 652 people from Indonesia’s total population of 250 million people.

Of that amount, most of the actuaries work in the life insurance industry and actuarial consultants, while the number of actuaries working in the general insurance industry is still relatively minimal.

Against this background, the Indonesian General Insurance Association (AAUI) together with the READI Project (Risk Management, Economic Sustainability, and Actuarial Science Development in Indonesia) and the Mathematics Department of FMIPA UI held the AAUI Goes to Campus with the theme Opportunities and Active Role of Actuaries in General Insurance “.

The event, which was held on Wednesday (05/02/2020) at FMIPA, UI Depok Campus, is a talk show that provides an understanding of the actuary profession and opportunities to work as actuaries in the general insurance industry that is still wide open.
