Commemoration of Earth Day, BEM FMIPA UI Encourage the #YUKPAKAITUMBLER Movement

Monday, April 23rd, 2018, the Student Executive Board (BEM) of FMIPA UI commemorated Earth Day which falls every April 22nd by promoting the #YUKPAKAITUMBLER movement.

Through this activity, BEM FMIPA UI invites the entire FMIPA UI academic community and Indonesian people to reduce the use of plastic bottles by using tumbler bottles. This is because a tumbler bottle is a beverage bottle that can be taken anywhere, anytime, and can be used repeatedly.

FMIPA UI BEM Chairman Ahmad Fauzan Kamaluddin (Chemistry) explained that the plastic bottle reduction movement aims to reduce the production of plastic waste and increase the awareness of FMIPA UI citizens about the growing concern over plastic waste produced on earth.

The #YUKPAKAITUMBLER movement that was carried out this year provides an advantage for those participating, that is, anyone who brings a tumbler can refill drinking water for free provided in Building B.

To commemorate Earth Day, on April 25th, 2018, BEM FMIPA UI received a visit from the BEM UI Environment Department, the visit was a form of collaboration of the 10,000 Bottle Free Tumbler Movement by opening a small booth in the B Building area of ​​FMIPA UI. Visitors to the booth can freely exchange 5 plastic bottles with 1 tumbler bottle.

The Free 10,000 Bottle Tumbler Movement that was carried by BEM UI was not only held at FMIPA UI but also at several other Faculties at UI. The activity, which was held from April 25th to May 3rd, 2018, was welcomed with good enthusiasm by the FMIPA UI academicians, this can be seen from the long queues at the booth.

In addition to holding a plastic bottle reduction movement, BEM FMIPA UI 2018 also provides knowledge related to earth day on LINE and Instagram accounts. This encompasses information related to the shape of the earth, the evolution of the earth, the evolution of continents, and the current state of the earth.

With this knowledge given, BEM FMIPA UI hopes that FMIPA UI students and even all Indonesian people can learn more about the ins and outs of the earth to contribute to reducing the amount and problems of plastic waste.

According to the BEM FMIPA UI public relations, Shintia (Mathematics) with the increasing age of the earth each year, also increases the population of people who compact it. So it should be, the condition of the earth can be more considered so that its feasibility as a planet where living things are maintained.
