Developing Multilevel Cultivation, FMIPA UI Realizing KRPL Program

Agricultural land in urban areas is increasingly limited. So that people in urban areas begin to lack space to come into contact with agricultural cultivation. Moreover, the narrow plot of land in densely populated settlements is generally not utilized optimally to support the availability of family food.

The multilevel crop cultivation system is a greening concept suitable for densely populated residential areas with limited land.

With this background, Pengabdian Masyarakat (Pengmas) from the Department of Geography FMIPA UI partnered with PKK cadres in Sukamaju Village, Cilodong District, to undertake manufacturing and development of multilevel plants.

Head of the Community Engagement (PengMas), Dewi Susilowati said, Pengmas programs aim to form PKK cadres who understand, have affection and are skilled in empowering local communities through the development of multilevel plants.

“By developing the application of multilevel plant technology, it is expected that the participants will be able to take advantage of the limited home environment to support the family’s food needs. Besides this activity is a transfer of terraced plant technology in the home environment is expected to also realize a clean atmosphere, and get added value (income) from the products produced, “said Dewi.

Also, she said, The Community Engagement aim to increase independence PKK cadre groups have been formed through multilevel vegetable cooperation. The Pengmas then created and developed terraced plants in RT02 and RT07 RW06, Sukamaju Village.

The types of vegetables chosen for development are chili, mustard spoon, lettuce, water spinach, and basil. The participants were enthusiastic in carrying out activities ranging from preparing planting media, sowing seeds and planting seedlings that had been sown.

“We are working with the Department of Food, Agriculture, and Fisheries of the City of Depok to discuss the Kawasan Rumah Pangan Lestari (KRPL) program,” she continued.

After implementing the practice of making terraced plants, continued assistance to do fertilizer and weeding plants.

Thinning of plants that grow in groups is carried out so that they can be moved so that they do not overlap and can grow optimally.

“The first harvest had been carried out in September. It is planned that at the end of October a second harvest will take place. With regular monitoring and assistance activities it is hoped that the objectives of this community service program can be fulfilled, “Dewi said.
