FMIPA UI Geosciences Team Won Award at 2019 Brawijaya Geophysics Festival

FMIPA UI Student Team again touted the achievements. Consisting of Bayu Setiawan (Geophysics 2017) and Evi Komala Sari (Geophysics 2017). Both of them received awards (3rd place) in the 2019 Brawijaya Geophysics Festival (BGF) held by the University of Brawijaya Geophysics Student Association (IMGF UB).

The competition for young geoscientists with the theme “Advancing the Future of Energy Industry in Indonesia” was held at Brawijaya University, Malang, on Sunday (17/11).

In BGF 2019, three competition fields were held, namely Seismic Interpretation Competition, Geophysics Quick Smart Competition, and Geophysical Survey Design Competition. The FMIPA UI team chose to take part in the Geophysical Survey Design competition.

Geophysical Survey Design Competition (GSDC) is a field of competition where participants are required to design geophysical exploratory survey designs, taking into account several aspects such as the selection of geophysical methods used, planning the position of any point measured from each method, the structure of working human resources, design activity budget and so on.

Even though he has not won first place, he and his team-mates express quite happy and proud. Bayu admitted that their preparations were not optimal enough, because there were subjects related to the competition but they had not yet received it in the lecture class. This is a pretty tough challenge for him.

“At first we insisted because, to be honest, we haven’t got yet any supporting subjects to take part in the competition. But from there we were challenged to take part in this competition “. he said.

Not giving up so easily, Bayu and Evi also tried to learn the material autodidact, by involving related lecturers to conduct discussions and guidance.

“Finally, we learned self-taught, exchanged discussions and asked for lecturer guidance. While living our faith, we finally have a goal to improve our physical skills that can later be applied in the real working,” he said again.

Bayu’s teammate, Evi, said that she had benefited a lot from participating in the competition. one of them is, she better understood the knowledge he had gained from her lectures at the FMIPA UI geoscience study program, to be applied in everyday life. In particular, continued Evi, in terms of making geophysical exploration projects in the search for energy prospects.

Through the Geophysical Survey Design Competition (GSDC), she applied the importance of determining survey points that will be used as preliminary surveys to identify and determine prospect areas, to conduct further surveys to determine drilling points.

“Quite a lot of advantages are obtained from this competition. we become more aware of the use of the knowledge we can on campus to be applied in the real world. especially in making geophysical exploration projects in finding energy prospects. Survey design is useful for determining points to be surveyed. The Preliminary Survey is used to determine the prospect area and the Advanced Survey is to determine the point of drilling “said Evi.
